Aberdare Ranges is an awe-inspiring landscape. Our love for adventure leads us to one of the best places to visit in Murang’a County for outdoor adventures. It’s a hiking trail at the edge of the Murang’a border with Kiambu County.
The journey starts from Nairobi with a scenic drive through the Kenyan country side. It takes about two hours from Nairobi to Kimakia forest starting point.
The trail starts at Kimakia fishing camp and follows a fisherman’s trail down to Chania river. We cross over and start climbing up towards the Ragia river. After about an hour or so of hiking through the Nature’s beauty, including views from both sides, we reach our destination, Kimakia Falls.
It is impossible not to be amazed by how much water falls. Thrashing over the rocks with majesty on this mountain side. In fact, you could say that no other place in Africa, has anything even close, but before I go any further with my story, why don’t you reserve a sit and experience it yourself?
Located at the border between Murang’a and Kiambu counties, on the southern edges of Aberdares Forest reserve is Kimakia Forest. This hike starts at their KFS office and traverses along wide-open forest roads before we turn into the forest itself. The hike down the forest can be slippery and long but very scenic. Next comes the river crossing and river trek before finally we’re at the double tier waterfall – our main objective for the hike
The return journey from the waterfalls is exactly the same way we came until finally, we return to the KFS office, completing a 15 km trek. This hike has amazing scenery, thrills, change of environment, river crossings and best of all – 2 amazing waterfalls in series where you can swim and relax
